We have articles about pet care that we hope will help you to understand your pet's diagnosis, pages that show and explain orthopedic and other surgeries, ultrasound diagnostics, emergency first-aid tips, pet hazards to be aware of, fun ways to exercise with your pet, and treat recipes that you can make at home. We also have articles about traveling with and taking care of your Best Friend.
Dr Hayes has completed the study of stem cell treatments and is now able to offer this service to our patients! She has also written a new handout about the advances in Stem cell treatment for dogs and cats!
Those Simple JigSaw Puzzles that we made from some puppy and kitten pictures are still available for you to let your youngsters spend some computer time playing while you're busy cleaning sidewalks and drives! They can be downloaded to a file on your desktop and opened whenever you want without your youngster being online.
Dr Hayes has recently completed the certification for canine rehabilitation. The process takes several weeks of classes over a 12 month period and an internship with a certified practicing rehabilitation therapist. Canine Rehabilitation Institute offers the courses to veterinarians and physical therapists.
Because pets of all types and sizes can benefit from rehabilitation and conditioning programs, Whitney Veterinary Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of these services to our practice. Rehabilitation services include exercise protocols, in-patient treatment, post-operative recovery plans, weight management, conditioning programs, laser therapy and TENS.
Please call the office at 309-685-4707 to set up a consultation. We look forward to helping your dog get fit and more active!
Well, days are getting longer! The daytime and nighttime temperatures are currently above normal; but, you still need to fix up a snug space for your outdoor pets! Take advantage of these above normal days to check their bedding and water situation. Please read our handout about Caring for your pet in the Winter!
Sure it's been muddy outside. But, don't think that's any excuse to quit walking your older dog for exercise! And - if you aren't walking them now, why not? Temperatures are cool enough to enjoy a walk. They'll Love it! Just be careful that they don't overdo it and get themselves all 'crippled-Up'! Why not talk to Dr. Hayes and ask for a few exercises that you can guide your arthritic dog or cat through? You'll both enjoy being outside in a little sunshine.
We still maintain our food drive for Critter Meals On Wheels! Our past response from our generous clients to this food drive has been overwhelming. The pets that would otherwise go to bed hungry thank you for your generous donations.
Spring is on its way!
The wood ticks, fleas and mosquitos are still here! It won't be safe to think they're gone until the ground is frozen. Be sure to pick up some tick and flea prevention at your veterinarian's office! Ticks carry lymes disease, and fleas carry tapeworm! You do not want your pet to become a victim of Lymes.
Our Doctors recommend giving heartworm tablets all year for prevention of heartworm and other parasites. If you didn't continue your flea-prevention through the summer, contact your veterinarian to get tested and get started again! Fleas carry tapeworm and other parasites and they try to ride along when your pets come inside. You don't want them to ride in and set up housekeeping for the coming winter!
Feeling a bit "pinched" by the cost of Christmas? We have a nice selection of Pet Treat Recipes that you can bake up for your pets.
