We have articles about pet care that we hope will help you to understand your pet's diagnosis, pages that show and explain orthopedic and other surgeries, ultrasound diagnostics, emergency first-aid tips, pet hazards to be aware of, fun ways to exercise with your pet, and treat recipes that you can make at home. We also have articles about traveling with and taking care of your Best Friend.

You may want to start with a list of our Care and Diagnosis Articles, and then look over our Services Page. The holidays may be over, but don't forget that our little four-legged friends don't know that they can't eat the Poinsettia, play with the snow globe, etc. Take a little time to look over our Partial list of Poisonous Substances!

The 4th of July!!

Happy 4th of JulyJuly 4th is a time for family gatherings, picnics and maybe fireworks in the evening.

Some families will be boating or camping. Maybe for the 1st time this year. Some will take their dogs along on their boat. Please keep a careful watch on them. They don't know anything about the dangers surrounding the propellers & might jump into them. Maybe consider putting a life vest on your favorite canine companion? We consider the possibility of them jumping from a moving boat to be as high as for them to jump from a moving car. Life vests are readily available at the local pet stores or online.

And then, thinking of camping, keep Frisby and ball throwing away from the campfire! One wrong leap could net your furry friend 4 burned feet; and you a trip to the emergency clinic. Consider taking a tie down along to keep your dog in your own camp, or think about adding some "X Pens" to your list. They fold flat and are quick to set up. Your dog can lounge around in his/her own space - without snuffling through your picnic!

If your pet has anxiety about thunderstorms or fireworks, visit your vet's office for some pre-holiday advice. Perhaps a few changes in your pet's environment will help. There are also some new medications available that you could try.

Our Doctors recommend giving heartworm tablets all year for prevention of heartworm and other parasites.
Also, don't discontinue your flea-prevention. Fleas carry tapeworm and other parasites and they try to ride along when your pets come inside; I found a flea on the floor of the laundry room the other day. (Little buggers jump & scurry away really fast when you're trying to smash them!) They could be waiting for your little "walking lunch" to come along. Look over our Handouts on Summer Care that includes flea prevention.

We still maintain our food drive for Critter Meals On Wheels! Our past response from our generous clients to this food drive has been overwhelming. The pets that would otherwise go to bed hungry thank you for your generous donations.

      Yes! The woodticks are back!

I've pulled 2 of them off my Golden within the last week. I became careless during the winter & didn't put protection on her. She has it now; but, now I have to worry about lymes symptoms!

We've already had some suffocatingly hot days this summer. More are coming!! Please look over our handout about Caring for your pets in the summer! Don't let your pets ride along to the store if the air temperature is above 65 deg. Always keep water available for them. You can get bowls that claim not to spill. (Actually, they do pretty good. My Golden hasn't dumped hers all over the back seat yet!) Carry a bottle of water along. If you don't use it for your pet, you can drink it. (Of course, if your car overheats, you always have a leash -- right?)

This is the time of year when "Fido" decides he/she's 2 years old again! They overdo it and hurt themselves! Check with your vet for some pain relief that you can give them. Their arthritis will be acting up with all that additional exercise. Perhaps you and your veterinarian need to discuss adding a glucosamine supplement to your pet's daily diet? Take a look at our handout about Arthritis. It's a very painful condition for humans and for pets!

This is a good time to get your Senior Pet Blood Panels taken care of. We also have a related article about What the Blood test means. After you read those, you may want to read about Senior Pet Care.Just as Summer heat is hard for older humans to cope with, it's hard for older animals.

Our pets really, really love this dog treat recipe.

Have you tried any of our puzzles yet? They're intended for the younger set, but it's kinda nice to find a simple jigsaw puzzle that goes together quickly. We made some easy JigSaw Puzzles out of some of the puppy and kitten pictures. (Perhaps your new pet is one of them?)

As pets get older, they are less able to cope with the changing temperatures and the stresses of hard play! If you're not sure how your pet is doing, the following articles may help:
